Part 19: Finally Finishing Floors!

Part 18: Finally Finishing Floors!

What a bountiful pile that only I could find! The rest of the guild should be begging at my feet for such skills. Ahahaha! Ahahahahahahahahaha!

And I thought I went crazy being by myself in the labyrinth.

You must be this crazy to want to grind gather spots.

Crazy or desperate depending on the situation. They're a nice out if you get stuck for whatever reason.

ask me about the literal two hours it took me to get Nectars using a lv1 Survivalist party, because i just remembered it

The Lounge Where We Speak of Tomorrow

The Jackson chef will definitely be pleased to see these. I dunno, though... is a meal made from these going to taste good at all?

Oh... you're asking us? Well, I tend to eat anything I come across, gahahaha!

Same here, I love twigs and leaves.

Then you really do have braver souls than mine. Maybe once it's ready, I'll find time to give it a try...

Well I have something called a palete, so, uh, no, I won't be trying this. I bet those monsters would eat pineapple on pizza.

I agree... maybe it'll turn out all right, but I'd still hesitate to try it.

For the record, I love pineapple on pizza, but I'm fine with those who don't like it, since it means more for me!

I. Um. No comment. How and why did that become a dish?

Here you are, with zero problems.

Pfft, show off.

Ah, the tangled web of jealousy and love, reminds me of my youth. From, er, three years ago~

What'd you find? A Bug Nest, Strawberry, and a Sea Branch? I bet you could find other useful things in the forest, even if no one's requesting them. Well, I'll make sure our client gets these. Thanks for your hard work.

Since the quest specifies B13F Chop points, we don't need Narcissus, which can only be found on B14F.

Hamaoprimes are pretty neat, but are obviously more useful later on, especially when we can get more, since they recover 1000HP and 1000TP.

Did you know that Hamaos actually used to be really good items? Well, now you know! And then they ended up getting nerfed into near uselessness in the later games. Only becoming useful again starting from EO5 when Atlus realized they could just use those as your earlygame TP items instead of bizarre lategame unlocks.

1 Narcissus is required for required for Fire/Ice/Volt Mist (Item, reduces Fire/Ice/Volt damage by 40% for 1 turn, must be restocked), sells for 800en.

These are equivilent to using the level 2 anti skills, so it's the best thing you'll get to tackle elemental enemies if you're not using a Protector. That won't work for every enemy though.

1 Stab Shell, 1 Sea Branch and 1 Rock Coral are required for Sea Charm (Accessory, DEF+1, TP+20), sells for 4500en.

3 Ant Honey are required for Bravant II (Item, increases the target's ATK by 125% for 5 turns), sells for 1200en.

1 Strawberry and 1 Ant Honey are required for Amrita II (Medicine, restores the target by 50TP), sells for 900en.

2 Strawberries required for Axcela II (Item, increases the target's Boost by 30 points), sells for 600en.

3 Elastic and 1 Bug Nest are required for Gum Aspis (Shield, DEF+7, Volt Resist Up 10%), sells for 1080en.

5 Bug Nests and 3 Shred Nails are required for Ohdachi (Katana, ATK+90), sells for 2760en.

Sea Charms are great, since we've still got a fair few +1 DEF equipment from the first update hanging around since I don't fancy paying for an extra 3 DEF. Investing in TP Up is still good, since the accessories only add onto the final number and don't get included in the skill boost.

Accessories really suck in this game. EO2 introduced some more useful ones at least.

The Thousand Year Old Blue Woodlands

We've got a floor to finish, so get used to these double screen images so you know where the hell I am.

What... fun little islands we have.

Gotta fill in the gaps, else Lavin will be upset.

Damn straight.

I never took you to be such a completionist.

I did not get it either, but there's definitely some honour in doing it.

A 116% damage increase, but the damage reduction is still 120%, that won't change until later levels. Still, you're not dealing with the average human warrior anymore.

Alright, we haven't gone this way yet.

Doesn't this just lead us back to the-

-start. Yeah.

Well, at least we don't have to come this way again.

Hooray for being tricked into backtracking!

Now we'll head left. This floor isn't very exciting, but got to go over all of it. Or I get banned, I think, for not bringing an LP to the table, or something.

I'd say this automatically fulfills the table requirement considering how many past EO1 LPs just died before they finished or didn't make it onto the archive.

Craaaaaaaaaaabs!

Give me just a moment!

Here's a weak Killclaw, and like the third different crab enemy we've fought. Like, since they all use the same sprite, there's really not much to say. All their drops are covered by other enemies, or from easy gathering, and since they're kinda rare, it's hard to remember these guys even exist.

i love the EO1 8-character name contractions. cutcrab

Oh hey, an FOE-lite, except this one is much much weaker than the actual FOE since it doesn't even have the instant kill attack. The enemy variety in EO1 really starts to show its weak points here.

The few times Aryll will actually use her TP during regular exploration! It's just faster using Orochi while everyone else deals with the crab's companion.

Boy howdy how about those Chop points, eh?

The gather points are so disjointed. Just like this Stratum's themes! Seriously first 2 floors were the ants, and the rest of it is basically just physical enemies and the water theme.

C-C-C-Crambo!

(This was a c-c-c-combo joke, in case it wasn't obvious. It's bad, but so are the crabs, so I'll leave it in!)

Well that was fun. Can we move on?

Can't imagine how you could find this empty lake boring.

Last one there is a rotten egg!

Ah damn it, now Lavin will think I'm a rotten egg...

Hmm, dead end. And this way?

Dead end. Neat.

Well at least someone is enjoying themselves.

Sworders are still a fuckin pain, but we got some nice exp. With Mirage at level 5, 165% power with a 44% ailment chance, we'll work on Drain some more, cause it can really help mitigate damage. Liana will get some TP before we finish up Apollon and Immunize is now a 50% damage reduction and a 66% speed modifier. Yes, it cuts all damage in half and we're not done yet, what could make you think this skill is broken?

love too make a poorly thought out skill

Bizarrely enough, it's just a straight -5% to the multiplier per level, so it never really changes in effectiveness per level. On the other hand, this skill was the main reason why most people were able to make it through the game in the first place, so I can't really fault it for existing.

Well we've reached the bottom, so that removes one direction to go.

Ooh, ooh, there's something this way!

Is the game telling us something? Nah, probably not.

It's never subtle before a boss fight.

Hey, I get enough sass from my co-commentators, you stay in your lane!

It's one of the few times EO1 really helps before a boss fight. Most other times it just sends you straight into the deep end.

Floating slowly and peacefully across the water... it's dishonourable! I wanna kill some stuff!

Man, does it really take three of you to hold it off?

It's a real pain!

cRaB

Snip snip!

If this leads to what I saw at the start of the floor, then we're about to have some fun. Ehehehehe.

She's... looking at me while giggling. Either she's into me, or imagining me getting mauled. Or both. Am I into that? I think I'm into that. I should never tell Ryu. But what if he's into that?

Oi, map boy, eyes up!

Hm? Oh, right. A crocodile.

I know, I'm excited too!

Guess the real reward is behind the monster. Should be easy enough, it's not the hell island they made it in the remake.

A Sudden Gust of Wind Before Your Eyes

Alright, so this is a lot less scary than other ones you might have faced in another game, but it's still pretty nasty. Well, we just used Immunize, so it won't be that much of a problem, but if you don't keep on top of healing, then Bite will wear you down very quickly. Your Survivalist won't like this battle either, but hey, they'll be fine, they're really good otherwise. It's just best to fight one now by itself, since the three we saw before would've been a real bad time.

It's one of the most unremarkable FOEs in the Stratum. Just hits hard and uhhh, not much else. Pelt it with ice if you can, I guess.

they're just as underwhelming in EOU

Well that stung, but my skin feels like steel!

Excellent, with such ferocious attacking like that, it's fallen right into my trap!

Ah, crap, I instinctively dodged out of the way. You're not helping either!

Sorry, it's just so easy sometimes...

There we go. While Immunize and Bait don't match too well, even with reduced damage, Bait nearly does the most damage we can do right now.

Bah, it just bounces right off.

Key word: nearly.

Like a hot knife through butta!

Yeah this ain't much of a contest, Immunize is just too good and that's why I don't like using it much. Let's see what it was guarding.

Hell, I'll never say no to you.

Get a girl who looks at you the same way Karin looks at bottles of medicine. Or, hm, maybe not, she's stroking it and... drooling.

Crabs. In our way. Inwabs.

With our mapping, we can see going up top would force us back a bit. Now imagine if we couldn't see what's ahead, wouldn't that be fun?

Please let us finish this floor.

If you are guarding the stairs, then the password is DIE!

That's B14F completed! There's nothing else to this floor. Hope you followed along easily enough, because this is some pretty tame shit.

Floor 14 is basically just a warp maze. A really straightforward one.

Alright, new floor! I can hardly wait!

Let's see what we're dealing with, this could be quite the long haul, like the other two.

Well I hate this place already.

I'll love it... in just a moment.

The stances these creatures take shows a deeper intelligence than expected, which is a problem...

...cause I wanna kill them! Maaaaaaan!

mood

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is, you've just gotta think outside the box.

After all, just attacking with your sword seems a bit... boring.

Aw shit, Lavin's getting roasted harder than the crab!

Anyone else feel that?

I taste that!

Even with your experience thus far, the presence is stronger than anything you've faced. Are you ready for anything? Have you prepared yourself to confront any creature? If you have the confidence in your skills, then open the door and meet your fate!

Oh hey, it's boss time already. Even though we've barely gone through floor 15. Yeah, Stratum 3 is effectively a 4 floor Stratum. Most likely they were trying to compensate for the fact that you have to fight 2 bosses in here.

Put the Warp Wire down, and no one gets hurt.

You know the rules, everyone should get a chance to fight it. Back to town.

The Lounge Where We Speak of Tomorrow

Hey there, prepping for the fifteenth floor?

Oh we already finished it, it's a tiny floor with something real big behind it.

Ooh, a new subject to clown on.

Hmm, with how damp your clothes are, revealing your muscles, maybe a fish? I can zap that easily enough.

No matter what it is, I'll sing at it with full vigour!

That's all you ever do.

And he's very honourable doing so.

Anyway, we need to figure out who will fight it. But there's some areas we can get to now, so that'll be good training.

There's even a new quest! Oh... it's one of these.

You wanna join in the chat?

I really don't care.

re: Ryu's comment: i am Engaging the Eyebrows

She was so pleased with the Old Choker that she wants you to get her a Tusk Charm, too. I know those tusks are though to come by, so good luck.

The game better not be suggesting that now is a good time to fight an Armoth, we did that like 8 updates ago.

1 Gator Skin is required for Hide Cape (Accessory, DEF+2, HP+15), sells for 2800en.

1 Death Claw and 1 Red Hide are required for Executor (Sword, ATK+97, STR+6, TEC+4), sells for 3600en.

3 Carapace and 1 Red Hide are required for Full Armor (Light Armor, DEF+22, HP+12), sells for 2400en.

2 Red Hides are required for Surcoat (Clothing, DEF+16), sells for 2520en.

3 Red Hides are required for Moccasins (Footwear, DEF+3, AGI+5), sells for 840en.

3 Fish Scales and 3 Blood Fangs are required for Fang Glove (Gloves, DEF+4, STR+2), sells for 660en.

5 Blood Fangs and 1 Red Blade are required for Bardiche (Axe, ATK+104, STR+6), sells for 2880en.

9 Carapace, 3 Bug Nests and 1 Red Blade are required for Body Aspis (Shield, DEF+14, VIT+3, Ice Resist Up 10%), sells for 2100en.

10 Carapace are required for War Mace (Staff, ATK+70, HP+15), sells for 2320en.

All of this took some time to get, but hey, I'll be getting some of it for the boss and we've nearly got everything unlocked in this stratum, very nice.

With teeth like these, who needs enemies?

Ah, so you do remember some of the stuff I teach you.

It does feel a little... primitive... but I'm sure the Lady won't mind. I'll see that she gets it. Thanks!

Liana is definitely someone I don't want running out of TP, so she'll get some of these, as well as finally replacing that first update glove I got cause we didn't have enough money for a boot. How times have changed.

7 Fish Scales and 1 Fish Fin are required for Scale Boot (Footwear, DEF+4, AGI+6), sells for 924en.

12 Fish Scales are required for Scale Cap (Headgear, DEF+6, TP+12), sells for 1250en.

Sometimes we've just gotta grind out the rest of the unlocks, mainly the final main floor drop that we just didn't see enough during regular exploration. It's all worth it though, Scale Caps are the best helmet in the game, since they have the best combined DEF and TP boost. Once everyone has one, they won't be coming off (Karin excluded, she has a unique helm).

I love how you can just, get best-in-slot gear mid-3rd Stratum. That makes sense. Thank you, EO1.

Equipment scaling is weird in this game.

With all that out of the way, it's time for main part of the update, since B14F was so short and B15F isn't really a floor. Are you ready for baaaaaaacktracking?

no

You'll backtrack and you'll like it.

Now this is some good shit, I'm gonna whack some stuff with this.

How are you gonna do tha- hey wait a minute, since when did you have biceps?

Hmm, not telling.

At least the treasures from the secret areas are worth it.

Okay, with this, not only is B1F finally done, but the entirety of the first stratum is mapped out. Took long enough.

The time has come and so have I.

I don't wanna know what that's referencing.

Already I'm liking this, though the random money chests are weird.

The one on B10F is a pain to get to, but hey, we'll beat up a bird instead of going the long corridor route, since we were already going through this place.

So very very worth it. The money is weird, though.

Pah, like child's play!

I wonder...

Uh... where did the Assassins go? Are they tied to Cernunos being alive? This game is so confusing sometimes.

Either that or you broke some other trigger considering how shoddy this game is kinda put together when you look at it more closely.

167% power and 70% absorption. It'll only get better! 10SP is still a pain to invest though...

At least Ryu gets a staff too. Shame there was nothing for me.

Killing the Moa so easily made me think we were ready to finally get the Stalker's conditional. Honestly, we can only do it because of Crush, since that skill is just bonkers while still, I remind you, being level ONE. It's next after War Cry, don't you worry.

Shame it doesn't unlock anything, but gotta cross it off the list. The long, long list. Anyway, one door left to go through.

Ah good, more crocodiles. And they move.

Each time we encounter them, they act differently. What an interesting variety of strategies we must employ!

These two Muckdiles patrol in two overlapping circles. And yes, I am trapped between them.

Easy enough to get out of.

That's one half of the maze done, now to just ignore these crocs and move on.

Ooh, up? That's different.

I wasn't mentally prepared for the jungle today and we're going back there again.

Neato. Alright let's go up the stai-

-what's that hissing sound?

Well since there's one less squirrel coming back to report, I'm guessing the crocs are chasing us.

So the first three Muckdiles stood in a room and only moved towards you when you were in battle. The second one stood motionless on the island and didn't move at all. Then these two patrol in a path and then aggro when you walk past a certain point. Well sucks to be this one.

EO1's spitefulness strikes again!

A Sudden Gust of Wind Before Your Eyes

Well that was fun, I guess.

Murder is always fun!

I always mistime my Baits, though, bit annoying.

Weird fight aside, that's the entirety of B11F! Man we're really clearing these floors, it's almost like it's the title of the update.

The Vast Primeval Hidden Grove

Welcome to the jungle.

Complete with enemies from a more watery environment. Secret areas wouldn't be as... weird with the enemy placements in later games, and usually just placed in entirely new and more thematically appropriate monsters whenever they wanted to scale up the challenge.

Oh neat, Rock Coral is an 8% drop. I was never expecting to get one and we don't need them, so whatever.

A straight corridor full of enemies. What else would this floor have?

If you noticed I didn't say we completely cleared some floors even after opening the violet doors, here's why, now we've completed the floor. Let's keep climbing.

Big bird.

Heh, for you.

Alright, let's not overdo that.

Another one.

Another one.

Another one.

Another one.

We shouldn't run from these birds, but I can't be bothered fighting them.

Another floor down! Isn't this just riveting content?

Ah, the scorpions are back. It feels like they never left.

Another one.

Anoth- oh wait, we got into a battle and that skips the tile trigger. Oh well!

Ah EO1, you janky janky mess.

Why are we still here? Just to suffer?

Oh stop being a baby and let me heal your feet. You know, they're so small and soft, I never noticed.

G-Great...

That's all of B8F. Now since B6F is all mapped out, there's only one left to go.

I hate this place and soon I shall hate all of you.

Even this is a bit much for me. I doubt the labyrinth cares about my safeword.

Every tile is a damage tile. How long will this go on for? Let's find out.

Fuck off game.

You wanna look at my feet after all this?

Would you be surprised if I said yes?

With you, it's never a surprise.

Like we're letting you avoid this hell!

Dammit, she saw right through me...

Now we're at 125% damage increase with 120% damage reduction. Or you could just call this a Bravant II.

A Nectar II was a bit much, but I appreciate it all the same.

It's only cause we're out of regular Nectars.

Okay, we've made it to the end of hell corridor and reached this room. How big is it?

Hmm, pretty big.

Good gravy, the map design is just all over the place.

Can't wait until we actually use one of these.

Perhaps we could leave items behind that we had no immediate need for. But that idea is too crazy.

Aw hell naw.

Indeed, only I can suck around here!

Hey. Phrasing.

Ah, sweet sanctuary. We'll go visit the spring and then come back.

Ooh, my swinging arm's back! Since apparently I have competition in the muscle department.

Well yeah, everyone's toned now. I'll always be sleepy, though, you can count on it!

Right... where were we? Oh yeah, pain. Cause this room is covered in it.

Hmm, yeah, I'll go for this one. Soothes my mind too.

Don't start tearing it up!

And hide this physique? Hell no, gurl.

Damn straight. Or, well, not that. You know.

Some encounters here are mean. Of course the one featuring the Meltworm isn't.

40% damage reduction. Pray tell, what would happen if we boosted it? We'll find out later.

Behold, unlimited power! And there is still so much she can do.

Ooh, ooh, I wanna see how this goes!

Yeah, no.

Uh, excuse me, the encounter orb is clearly blue, turning green. We should not be close to an encounter!!!

Aww man, I wanna fight the big scary monsters...

We can do that another time. Without those fish. Never those fish...

Ah, finally, I've been missing these!

You should just make your own.

But then they wouldn't be perrrrrrrrfect.

Okay, I won't complain about that one, since we literally just ran from that lot and then walked right back into them again.

This was quite the substantial area. There must be one hell of a creature to fight back here!

I'm not sensing anything, but I'm ready if you are.

N-Nothing? A complete and utter dead end???

Well there's been some nice treasure, and quite fearsome battles.

I don't know why you're surprised, I've caught on to the labyrinth's dumb tricks.

Alright, that's all the backtracking done! We've uncovered everything behind the doors and that makes B7F and, indeed, the second stratum, completely complete! We'll be coming back, but not for a while, mainly because of...
